David Wilkerson, Rest in Peace

By aguasilver

What can be said, a true and faithful servant of the Living Lord has been called home, here is one of his most telling messages.

However, even though this was meant as simply a tribute to a great servamt of God who has passed over, I need write more, for the 'moderator' seems to have decided that this hub is substandard.

So who was David Wilkerson?

David Wilkerson was the man who started the Times Square Church in New York City.

He arrived in New York in 1958 to work with gang members and drug addicts, and from that work came a best-selling book, The Cross and the Switchblade.

In 1987, David Wilkerson returned to "the crossroads of the world" to establish Times Square Church.

Since then he has stood as a beacon of hope to many who were changed by his preaching, convicted by his strong messages and spent many years bringing new and challenging concepts to pastors worldwide.

He was insitu for the 9/11 demolition of the twin towers, and offered releif to many who were affected.

His messages have not always been accepted by many in mainstream Churchianity, but who cares?

My son works for Metro Ministries in the same city, New York, he and his co workers have regularly visited the Times Square church, and been fed and nurtured by that body of believers.

In a world where it's easier to walk on the other side of the street and not interfere, it's the David Wilkerson men of this world, that bring us all to the reality that there is so much more we can do to help those who, by circumstance of birth are less fortunate than we are.

We sit and read and write (or moderate) this in the comfort of our homes, by the Grace of God, when we could have been born into dark streets of despair, where violence and drugs and rebellion are our options, with no hope unless and until someone who knows the way out can find us, stay with us, work with us, be there for us and be prepared to stay the course in the hope that we, the disadvantaged, may finally find the one tru source of liberty from desperation.

Jesus Christ, Lord of All, King of Kings and who loves us, whether we are a David Wilkerson, or Trevonne Winn.... who was Trevonne Winn? well he was made famous for a moment or two recently, in the video below.

He lived and died two streets from my sons place of work, killed for no obvious reason.

Do I worry about my sons safety, sure I do, does he, nah! "I got God protecting me" was his answer.

David Wilkerson has died, but God has many other servants to carry on his works.

Will you cross the street to stay uninvolved?

Do yourself a favor, watch BOTH these videos before you hop hubs from here.

And I thank our moderators for making me write what needed to be said.

Thanks Will, he will be sadly missed, though my son tells me he rarely preached these days, thankfully, with technology his words will still be here to speak for him.

I am so grateful for His ministry. Minnesota teen challenge is the most successful drug rehab program in the state for those who complete the course.

David Wilkerson really has left a legacy of faith that was exhibited in his works.

His testimony of God's love is stunning.

Wow! That "Call to Anguish" is really moving, and convicting. We must go beyond "concerned." Amen!

Thank you for delivering this important and needful missive, my friend. Well done!

The agony of God's Heart...many of us do not think about this enough? The first video was excellent, had so much more impact for me just seeing and hearing the words...rather than having a bunch of theatrical pictures. I thought about the quote "no weeping"...our hearts grow cold towards the world and their ways...yet the Bible says, that for those who end up in hell, there will be weeping and nashing of teeth. We as a church, try not to focus on this picture literally. Yet, I saw a performance one time, where they acted out what may happen in the life thereafter...when we have to come face to face with Jesus? To see if we are written in the Lambs book of life? This was heart wrenching, seeing what may happen to those who do not choose Jesus:( In this case being more visual and literal, give's a person a definite wake up call. I do need to get out of my comfort zone, and share the love and sacrafices of Jesus. How God made a way, and a new home in heaven for us one day...if we choose HIM:) My hats off to you auguasilver, another great hub!

Thanks drpastorcarlotta and heart4theword, just back from a trip to Thailand and catching up! before getting off again Monday morning to the Filipines, hence not much time to write.

We all need to be anguished and concerned, but life gets in the way huh!

Thanks for writing this hub. David Wilkerson was an amazing evangelist and Pastor. I remember my church was doing outdoor meeting with him in New York. It was the first time I ever saw some give an alter call before the message! He was a man of courage, passion and wisdom!

I must admit I have never heard of this man John, but I will take some time now to seek out more of his lessons and words. This was truly inspirational. When we really look back at our own personal life, it is very easy to see how many more good things were born out of anguish, then simply just a passing concern and a thought to get involved. When we felt a real prodding that drove us down to our knees and made us turn to Him and only Him for comfort, then we really found the place He wanted us to be - a place where He could begin to mold and form us, turn us into an instrument for His divine use. Thanks for posting this. Be blessed. Peace
